STREAMLINED SAS TECHNOLOGY IN AN INDUSTRY-PROVEN WORKFLOWAll SAS sonars require dedicated processing software for dealing with the amount and format of the SAS collected data. This hardly accommodates requirements from the survey industry to standardise the processing and interpretation tasks for geophysical data. iXBlue especially addresses this need with SAS integration into DELPH Sonar Interpretation software suite. The addition of a new module – DELPH SAS – fully integrates Synthetic Aperture Sonar imaging into an industry proven processing software. DELPH is the industry leading software suite providing the best productivity in a user-friendly environment thanks to a highly optimized workflow. Appreciated by major survey companies it now allows the full integration of SAS data together with conventional side-scan sonar, bathymetry, sub-bottom profiling, magnetic and other information layers. All existing features available in DELPH Sonar Interpretation like batch data processing and mosaicking, target picking and management, interpretation and seabed classification are now also available for SAS imagery. |

Real-time absolutely positioned imageryUsual SAS data processing only relies on ping-to-ping correlation to increase image resolution and when possible determine its position using micro-navigation. DELPH SAS processing tightly couples sonar and Inertial Navigation System data, thus producing naturally geo-referenced images, with a very robust algorithm that is not sensible to vehicle movements. The possible integration of absolute positioning from USBL sensor completes the unique capability of delivering accurately geo-referenced SAS data in real-time. Near perfect line matching immediately benefits to data interpretation, while a minimal positioning ambiguity helps in targeting accuracy. Data processing and mosaicking is faster than real-time which even allows online data interpretation.
Full Image - truly benefiting from the longer range capabilityMulti-ping integration in SAS processing results in superior resolution and larger range capability as the signal to noise ratio improves. A wider beam-width and multi-channel beam-forming on port and starboard ensures a complete natural insonification of the seabed even at shorter ranges and in rough sea conditions. Additionally, DELPH SAS integrates the co-registered gap-filler images of the seabed at nadir, which provides users with full swath sonar coverage. As SAS technology extends the sonar range and the need for overlapping survey lines is reduced, further survey planning optimization is made possible. Duplicate data management is limited, thus saving time and money.
